I think the main reason is why we are all so drawn to Google is because it has repeatedly proven itself as a information center and business power house, supplying us with what we ask and what Google thinks we want. Saying that we are addicted is putting it to much in a negative light. Google is just doing a good job, so we keep coming back. Now saying it has to much power over our lives is an interesting idea. With everything they do such as ads, navigation, searching for information, mobile devices, and now even starting Google Fiber; a much faster internet service then anything else on the market, it would definitely seem like it, but they have this "power" because we give it to them. As I said before, Google has repeated proved itself as a quality company, thus their name is almost a symbol of quality. They are providing many services that we do indeed buy, but once again, that is because we enjoy what they do. I am even eager to have Google Fiber come to Chicago. Being capped by Comcast is all but enjoyable and fun. Even though some things have just not caught on, like Google+ and various other things they do, they put out a lot of services to us.
Now, which how much power we give them, I suppose they could completely disclose our privacy' however, it would not be a good business practice at all. It might even mean the death of the company because if there was a mass deviation from Google, because they ruin would their reputation, it would mean loses from ad revenue, mobile device revenue, and many other places. I'm sure they would not want to lose what they have.
